This is a sad news item I came across about a man from Yonker, New York who was driven into committing suicide due to an internet romance scam, the perpetrators are believed to be from Ghana.

The family found piles of Western Union transaction records for $300 transfers to Ghana, a country in West Africa widely known for its romance and riches scams.'- Dailymail
He made a series of payments to her, amounting to a few hundred dollars at a time, but which eventually mounted up to $50,000. In order to make the payments to an account in Ghana, Circelli took out loans, credit cards in his son's name, and stopped making the mortgage payments on his home, which eventually went into foreclosure.
